⚡ Kite & Key Blend

Coffee shouldn't taste bitter.

If you've been adding cream and sugar just to make coffee drinkable, it might not be the coffee. It might be the roast.

What people say after the first bag

★★★★★

"The coffee is delicious and has no bitter after taste. I don’t even need to add cream to make it palatable like some other brands."

Jennifer T.VERIFIED
★★★★★

"Not a connoisseur of coffee. But I would and will start drinking this without cream or sugar."

Paul B.VERIFIED
★★★★★

"This coffee is excellent for a long black or an Americano. There is no hint of bitterness."

Matt G.VERIFIED
★★★★★

"This coffee is very smooth with no aftertaste. Smells great while brewing. For being a ‘medium dark’ roast, it is not over-powering or has any hint of bitterness."

SusanVERIFIED
★★★★★

"Much better than church coffee! No burnt flavor. I’d rather have a cup of Kite and Key at home than have a cup of Starbucks."

Why it isn't bitter

Air roasted, not drum roasted

A handful of coffee chaff
This is chaff · drum roasted

Stays in the drum

Chaff is the dry outer skin of the bean. In a drum roaster, chaff stays in the drum longer, and it can scorch against the hot drum wall.

Gigawatt fluid-bed air roaster
This is our roaster · air roasted

Carried away on the air

The beans ride on a bed of hot air rather than tumbling against a hot drum wall, so nothing scorches. Airflow carries chaff away during the roast.

A cup of black Gigawatt coffee

No cream. No sugar.
Nothing to hide behind.

Corporate coffee has no soul. But we do.

We're Jen & Eli. Gigawatt is our family business, roasted in small batches in Bensenville, Illinois. Kite & Key is the one we drink every morning.

FAQ

How much is shipping?

$5 per order, no matter how many bags. Free local delivery in eligible towns near Bensenville. Orders ship in 1 to 3 business days.

Why is it only $13.99?

Because great coffee shouldn't require luxury pricing. We keep overhead low: we roast it ourselves and sell direct, online and at farmers markets. We'd rather earn a repeat customer than maximize one sale.

Is it dark or light roast?

Medium dark. Tasting notes of dark chocolate, walnut and caramel come from the beans themselves, not from anything added. Nothing is flavored. It's the middle of the road on purpose: the one people order when they want coffee that just tastes good every morning.

I take mine with cream and sugar. Does that matter?

Not at all. Drink it however you like. A fair number of customers tell us they stopped needing it.

How fresh is it really?

We roast in small batches and ship in 1 to 3 business days. The roast date is handwritten on the front of every bag.
