Water Processed Decaf

Water processed decaf, explained

Water processed decaf coffee has its caffeine removed using water and pressure alone — no chemical solvents anywhere in the process. Static Resistor is our Colombian decaf, air roasted the same way as everything else we make.

What water processed means

Green beans soak until the caffeine moves out. The water is filtered to strip the caffeine and returned to the beans, so the flavour goes back where it came from.

It holds up as espresso

Decaf beans are brittle, so they run fast and taste thin as a shot. A medium‑dark air roast keeps the body. Grind finer and pull slightly longer.

Why most decaf tastes burnt

Decaffeination darkens beans before they reach a roaster, so drum roasters push them too far. Air roasting never presses them against hot metal.

Can espresso be decaf?

Yes. Espresso is a brewing method, not a kind of bean — it is coffee ground fine and pushed through with pressure. Any coffee can be pulled as espresso, decaf included. Static Resistor is a dark roast, which is what you want under that pressure.

How much caffeine is in a decaf espresso shot?

A small fraction of a regular shot. To be sold as decaf in the United States, coffee must have at least 97% of its caffeine removed, so what remains is a trace rather than a dose.

Is decaf espresso really decaf?

Yes, within that 97% standard. What varies is how the caffeine came out. Ours is water processed, meaning water and pressure alone with no chemical solvents.

Can you use decaf coffee in an espresso machine?

You can, and it behaves like any other coffee. Grind a little finer than you would for drip, and pull it the way you normally would.

Never bitter, never burnt. If it ever is, tell us and we’ll make it right.
