FAQ - Oppidan Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee
FAQ

Common Questions

How long is the coffee aged in the barrel?
This batch was aged for 8 weeks in Oppidan bourbon barrels. The extended aging time allows the beans to absorb the warm sweetness and smooth bourbon character while maintaining the natural creamy chocolate notes of the Guatemalan coffee.
Does barrel aged coffee contain alcohol?
No alcohol content. The green coffee beans absorb the flavors and aromas from the bourbon barrel — the warm sweetness, smooth character, brown sugar notes — but not the alcohol itself. It's all flavor, no buzz (other than caffeine!).
Why is this whole bean only?
Barrel aged coffee has delicate, complex flavors that fade quickly once ground. We recommend grinding fresh right before brewing to experience the full depth of the chocolate, sweetness, and bourbon barrel character. It makes a real difference.
Will this coffee come back?
Each barrel aged release is truly limited — we only make 100 bags per batch. Once this Oppidan Bourbon Barrel Aged Guatemalan is gone, we'll move to a different barrel for the next release. If you love it, stock up while you can.
What's the best way to brew barrel aged coffee?
Any method works beautifully! Pour over and French press really let the barrel character shine. For espresso, you'll get a rich, complex shot. Drip coffee works great too. Just grind fresh and enjoy the experience.
Where does the coffee come from?
The base coffee is a single origin Guatemalan from Finca Ona in the San Marcos region. The Hawley family has been growing coffee on this farm since 1890 — over 130 years of craft. The farm is Rainforest Alliance certified and powered by hydroelectric energy.
