Origin Story - Sigri Estate Peaberry Coffee

How Our Sigri Estate Peaberry is Grown and Processed

From the Sigri Estate in Papua New Guinea to your cup — here's the journey.

Shade-Cultivated at Sigri Estate

This coffee comes from the renowned Sigri Estate in Papua New Guinea's Wahgi Valley, where coffee is grown at 1,600 meters above sea level under natural tree canopy. The shade-cultivated environment encourages slower bean development, which produces the bright, complex flavors Sigri is known for worldwide.

Washed Process for Bright, Clean Clarity

After hand-harvest between May and October, the cherries are fully washed — the fruit pulp is removed before drying, leaving only the bean. This method produces a cleaner, brighter cup with sharper acidity than natural-processed coffee — exactly what brings out blackcurrant, lemon pie, and sugarcane notes.

What Makes a Peaberry Special

Most coffee cherries contain two flat-sided beans. A peaberry is the rare occurrence — about 5% of cherries — when only one round, dense bean develops inside. With no neighbor to share nutrients, peaberries are denser and more flavor-concentrated. They're hand-sorted from the rest of the harvest, which is why peaberry coffees are rarer and more sought-after.

100% Heirloom Typica Varietal

Papua New Guinea is one of the only places in the world where heirloom Typica is still widely grown. Typica is the ancestor of nearly all modern Arabica varietals — known for exceptional clarity, sweetness, and a clean, refined cup. Most regions have replaced it with higher-yielding varieties; PNG's isolation kept the heirloom Typica intact.

Why We Chose This Sigri Estate Peaberry

We chose Sigri Estate Peaberry for its unique combination of rarity, clarity, and brightness. The peaberry concentration, washed processing, and high-altitude Wahgi Valley terroir create a juicy, clean cup with blackcurrant, lemon pie, and sugarcane notes. Sigri Estate is one of Papua New Guinea's most respected coffee estates — and the peaberry is the most exceptional cup it produces.

From Sigri Estate, Papua New Guinea to your cup — grown with care, roasted with passion.

FAQ - Sigri Estate Peaberry Coffee
FAQ

Common Questions

What is a peaberry coffee?
A peaberry is a rare type of coffee bean that forms when only one round, dense bean develops inside a cherry instead of the usual two flat-sided beans. Only about 5% of a harvest naturally produces peaberries, and they're hand-sorted from the rest. Because peaberries don't share nutrients with a neighbor, they're denser and more flavor-concentrated.
What is washed process coffee?
Washed process coffee has the fruit pulp removed before drying, leaving only the bean. This method produces a cleaner, brighter cup with sharper acidity than natural-processed coffee — perfect for highlighting the bright fruit and citrus notes in Sigri Estate Peaberry.
Where is Sigri Estate located?
Sigri Estate is one of Papua New Guinea's most respected coffee estates, located in the Wahgi Valley of the Western Highlands. The estate sits at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level in fertile volcanic soil — ideal conditions for growing specialty-grade heirloom Typica coffee.
What does Sigri Estate Peaberry coffee taste like?
Sigri Estate Peaberry is known for its bright, juicy, fruit-forward profile. Natural notes of blackcurrant, lemon pie, and sugarcane create a clean, crisp cup with zero bitterness and a refreshing finish — exactly what makes peaberry coffees so sought-after.
How should I brew Sigri Estate Peaberry coffee?
Sigri Estate Peaberry shines in pour-over and drip — both methods showcase its clarity and bright fruit notes beautifully. French press gives it more body, and as espresso you'll get juicy, citrus-forward shots. Drink it black to fully appreciate the blackcurrant, lemon pie, and sugarcane complexity.
